Loop Road

“The Loop Road” is a 70-mile scenic drive that starts and ends in Lander. The trip goes through Sinks Canyon, up the steep “Switchbacks” into the mountains, passes several high mountain lakes, and comes back through the South Pass area and Red Canyon.

The Road, starting at Bruce’s Camp Trailhead, and many side trails, are groomed for snowmachine use by Wyoming State Trails and The Lander Snow Drifters from Bruce’s Campground to WY28 hwy (about 26 miles). Skis and fat bikes are allowed on all of these routes but please follow some of the following guidelines:

  • Please use front and rear flashing lights to be seen better by other users.

  • Stay to the right, especially on blind corners or areas with poor visibility.

  • We recommend purchasing a snowmobile permit to support the grooming effort.

  • Be prepared! These are longer connections, keep in mind weather and conditions can vary wildly.

The road climbs to its high point at Blue Ridge at 9500.’ It drops into Louis Lake and out to Highway 28 where you can return back to Lander via vehicle.
